About Us
Who We Are and What We Do
The University Bible Fellowship at IIT (IIT UBF) is a non-denominational, evangelistic organization that focuses on bringing the gospel message to students and young adults at the Illinois Institute of Technology (Illinois Tech) and surrounding schools and community.
Worship in the Godbox
We hold weekly worship services at 10am on Sundays on the Illinois Tech campus in the historic Carr Memorial Chapel, affectionately known as the Godbox, which designed by the renowned architect Ludwig Mies van der Rohe.
Friday Night Bible Study
On Friday nights, we hold a group Bible study to prepare our hearts for the upcoming worship service. We study the upcoming passage and pray for each other. We meet every Friday night in the House of Redemption on 3148 S. Indiana Avenue at 7pm.
Mentored Bible Study
One of the unique hallmarks of UBF is our desire for individual people to personally meet and accept Jesus. To that end, we offer mentored Bible study, which allows people to have personal Bible studies with Bible teachers on a one-to-one basis.
Retreats, Conferences and Large Events
Multiple times a year we hold large events like retreats or conferences. These typically occur around Easter and during the summer. These events great chances to take get away from the stress and distraction of our lives to dedicate time to focus on the Word of God and grow in fellowship with one another. Typically, we announce the events on social media. Be on the lookout for the next large event.
IIT Bible Club
Since 2000, the IIT Bible Club has been a group where Illinois Tech students can come together, pray for each other and study the Bible in a group setting. The goal is for students to encourage one another to grow deeper in a relationship with Christ and with each another. On occasion, the Bible Club meets for activities from movies to bowling to stopping in at our favorite local restaurants.
Christmas Worship Service
Each year, our ministry joins with all other Chicago ministries to attend a special extended Christmas worship service. In addition to a Christmas message, there is music, dancing and a drama celebrating the birth of our Lord Jesus Christ. Afterwards, we gather together for a Christmas feast!
What We Believe
- We believe that there is one God in three Persons: God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Spirit.
- We believe that God created the heavens and the earth and all other things in the universe: that He is the Sovereign Ruler of all things; that the Sovereign God reveals Himself; we believe in his redemptive work and in his final judgment.
- We believe that the Bible is inspired by God; that it is the truth; that it is the final authority in faith and practice.
- We believe that since the fall of Adam, all people have been under the bondage and power of sin and are deserving of the judgment and wrath of God.
- We believe that Jesus Christ, who is God and man, through his atoning, sacrificial death on the cross for our sins and his resurrection, is the only way of salvation; he alone saves us from sin and judgment and purifies us from the contamination of the world caused by sin.
- We believe that Jesus Christ rose from the dead, ascended into heaven and sits at the right hand of God the Father.
- We believe that regeneration is by the work of the Holy Spirit, and that it is necessary if one is to enter the kingdom of God. We believe that God sent his Holy Spirit to empower his church to witness to Jesus to the ends of the earth.
- We believe that we are made righteous by grace alone, through faith alone.
- We believe that the Holy Spirit works in the heart of every believer to lead him.
- We believe that the church is the body of Christ and that all Christians are members of it.
- We believe that Jesus will come again in glory to judge the living and the dead.
