Date: Apr. 8, 2014
We are happy to announce our 2014 Easter Event entitled Uncommon, which will be happening on April 19-20 on the campus of the Illinois Institute of Technology. Day 1 will begin at 10 AM in the MTCC Ballroom and Day 2 will begin at 10 AM in the Godbox
The Premise
Jesus walked the earth nearly 2,000 years ago, but he still shapes the lives of millions. No one has affected more people than Jesus in all of history. He was not an ordinary man. Those who follow him do not live ordinary lives. The sacrifice he made was no ordinary sacrifice. Throw out all the conceptions you have about Jesus and Christianity. It’s time to shift your conceptions and see the uncommon.
Shift Your Conceptions
Uncommon will be broken up in to three sections: Uncommon Jesus, Uncommon Life and Uncommon Salvation.
Uncommon Jesus
The common view of Jesus is of a effeminate, pacifist with long, feathered hair. The reality of who Jesus is is vastly different than that view. Jesus is revolutionary. He is a teacher like no other, a healer with no equal, a king with unparalleled humility and a god with unbounded grace. Jesus is uncommon in every sense of the word.
Uncommon Life
Christianity is often viewed as living morally according to the Bible. That means that it is dull and you spend most of your time trying to make sure that you are doing the right things and not doing the wrong things. Life in Christ is so much greater than that. Jesus promises to give us life to the full (John 10:10). It is a life that is full of joy and peace, no matter what hardships may abound. It is a life of promise and power, where even the impossible becomes reality because God is in it. Life in Christ is uncommon.
Uncommon Salvation
In order to have the life that is truly uncommon, we have to believe in a Jesus that is truly uncommon. Everyone needs salvation, because everyone has sinned. Jesus saves us from our sins through his death on the cross and resurrection. If anyone were to plan a rescue mission, the way Jesus saved us wouldn't be it, but it is the way God chose to save us and bring us back to him. Humanity's redemption is uncommon.
