Habakkuk 2:2-8 (ESV)
Key Verse: 2:3
First, though it linger, wait for it (2-5). Habakkuk's complaint was based on what he saw with his eyes, that wickedness seemed to prevail. God helped him to see with the perspective of eternity. How gracious is the Lord! He spoke his eternal truth to the prophet, his urgent message of judgment and salvation. He teaches all who hear it that it is sure and certain. We must live not based on sight, but by faith in the Lord, the righteous judge of all the nations, and wait for him when he is not visible. Such faith is counted as righteousness (Ro 1:17).
Second, woe to him (6-8). The Lord spoke a series of "woes" against the injustice in the world. He is not blind to sin, but rather is patient, waiting for his own to repent. But his kindness is not forever. His judgment will certainly come. Those who piled up wealth at the expense of God's people, who plundered the nations by force, would never escape God's judgment.
Prayer: Lord, there is so much injustice. Help me to wait on your judgment and salvation. Teach me the faith that sees all things in light of your eternal purpose.
One Word: Wait for the Lord
Acts 8:26-40
