Nehemiah 6:1-19 (ESV)
Key Verse: 6:16
First, "Now strengthen my hands" (1-9). Sanballat, Tobiah, and Geshem tried to get Nehemiah involved in politics. He told them four times that he was too busy building the wall to meet them. The fifth time, Sanballat sent a letter accusing Nehemiah of plotting a revolt to become king. Nehemiah knew it was a lie to frighten them and get them to stop working. Nehemiah did not back down. He prayed, "Now strengthen my hands."
Second, work done with the help of God (10-19). Nehemiah's enemies hired a prophet to lure Nehemiah into sin to discredit him by misusing the temple. Many people tried to intimidate Nehemiah (13,14,19), but he stood firm in faith. The wall was completed in 52 days. It was clearly a work done by the help of God. Even their enemies realized this, became afraid, and lost their self-confidence.
Prayer: Lord, let me not be intimidated by your enemies, but be strengthened in faith and reliance on you, and participate in work done with your help.
One Word: A work done with the help of God
