Job 1:1-22 (ESV)
Date: Feb. 1, 2015
Job 1:1-22 (ESV)
Key Verse: 1:21
First, Job was blameless and upright (1-5). Job was blameless and upright; he feared God and shunned evil. God blessed him with seven sons and three daughters, abundant materials and many servants. He was called the greatest man in the East. He was diligent to take good care of his children's spiritual life.
Second, naked I came, naked I will depart (6-22). Here Satan appears before the LORD. Satan, meaning accuser, is also a murderer and a liar. (Jn 8:44) He prowls around like a roaring lion looking for someone to devour (1 Pet 5:8). When the LORD recognized Job highly, Satan challenged him, saying that Job would curse God if all God's blessings were taken away from him. But Satan lost. The Lord won! Job lost all and tore his robe in sorrow, yet he didn't curse but praised the Sovereign Lord.
Prayer: Lord, save me from being a welfare-Christian. Help me to fear you and glorify you in all situations, overcoming Satan's attacks.
One Word: Faith in God, not in his blessings!
Acts 8:26-40
Key Verse: 8:35
