Genesis 27:30-46 (ESV)
Key Verse: 27:33b
First, Esau loses his blessing to Jacob (30-40). Esau was a physical man who did not value spiritual blessing. He lost the birthright and now the blessing that followed to his brother Jacob. Even though he cried with loud weeping and pleading, Isaac could not undo the blessing that he had bestowed on Jacob. Jacob was indeed blessed because he became a blessing in God's redemptive history. Maybe, he didn't fully understand it at the time but his action revealed that he valued spiritual blessing more than anything else.
Second, Rebekah helps Jacob to flee (41-46). Rebekah understood what Esau was capable of doing. She had a sense of timing and helped Jacob to flee to Padan Aram where he would be safe from his angry brother. From there, he would suffer a lot to bear God's blessing. But in the end, he would fulfill his role in God's history as a patriarch and ancestor of Jesus the Messiah.
Prayer: Lord, help me to repent my wrong value system. Help me to seek spiritual blessing as of first importance.
One Word: Don't miss out on God's blessings!
Revelation 17:1-18
