Wisdom from God

Date: Jun. 23, 2015

Passage

1 Corinthians 1:18-31  (ESV)

Daily Bread

Key Verse: 1:30

First, the message of the cross. (18-25) Paul's message was the message of the cross. Paul spoke such a message to the people of Greece, where Corinth was located. They were used to debating the merits of the wise men and philosophers of this world. The message of the cross could seem foolish by comparison. But the message of the cross has God's power-the power to save men from the powers of sin and death. Philosophy may sound wise and strong, but it does not have God's power or wisdom to save.

Second, God chose the foolish things. (26-31) God wants to reveal his bright glory. In his sovereignty he chose to do this through the cross. God chose to do this not by selecting the wisest or noblest or most influential people in the world. It is because of God and God alone that we are in Christ Jesus. He is our righteousness, holiness and redemption. We have nothing to boast about, at the same time we are the revelation of the glory of God by his will and choice. We are called to boast in the Lord and tell others about the message of the cross-the wisdom of God.

Prayer: Lord, help me to boast only in you. Use me to preach the message of the cross in our times.

One Word: Christ Jesus is my righteousness
