Psalm 31:1-24 (ESV)
Key Verse: 31:24
First, my rock of refuge (1-8). David again prays for deliverance from enemies (4, 11, 15). He refers to the LORD as my "rock of refuge", "my rock" and "my fortress" (1a, 2b, 3a). The LORD is our rock of refuge, the only source of stability in a world of chaos. Like David, we can go to the LORD, the rock of our salvation, when our world is falling apart. When Jesus was surrounded by his enemies and hanging on the cross dying, he prayed, "Into your hands I commit my spirit" (5a). We can have peace when we commit our spirit into the hands of our loving and faithful God (5b).
Second, all you who hope in the LORD (9-24). David was consumed with anguish and weak from sorrow due to his enemies. He felt like a broken piece of useless pottery (12). He heard people conspiring against him (13). Still, he trusted in God and could say, "You are my God" (14). He trusted in the good things that God had stored up for the righteous (19). He found peace under the shelter of God's presence (20). He ends this psalm with two exhortations: "Love the Lord, all his faithful people... (and) be strong and take heart, all you who hope in the LORD" (23, 24).
Prayer: Lord, I love you, for you are my rock of refuge. I wait for you. Help me to be strong and take heart in the battles I face today.
One Word: Be strong and take heart
Acts 8:26-40
