Matthew 22:1-14 (ESV)
Key Verse: 22:2
First, the invited guests refuse to come (1-7). The king held a great wedding banquet for his son. He sent his servants to bring the invited guests but they refused the offer with many excuses. Some mistreated his servants and killed some of them. The king was so enraged he destroyed them. His chosen people were too proud to welcome Jesus as the Messiah.
Second, the grace given to uninvited guests (8-14). After this the king sent his servants to the streets to invite the homeless and the poor, those unworthy to come. The Gentiles received God's grace because the Jew rejected the invitation. One man was not wearing wedding clothes which was given obviously to the guests to wear. He probably thought his clothes were good enough and refused the wedding clothes. As a result he was thrown outside into darkness. When we come to him, we must wear the wedding clothes, that is, the righteousness of Christ (1Co1:30). "For many are invited, but few are chosen" (14).
Prayer: Lord, thank you for inviting me to your Son's wedding banquet. Help me to wear the righteousness of Christ as I come to you.
One Word: Come wearing Jesus' wedding clothes.
Acts 8:26-40
