Daily Bread

God is the Sovereign Judge

Date: Dec. 15, 2015

Passage

Psalm 50:1-23  (ESV)

Daily Bread

Key Verse: 50:23

  The one who offers thanksgiving as his sacrifice glorifies me;
    to one who orders his way rightly
    I will show the salvation of God!”

Frist, God will deliver (1-15). The Mighty God is the judge over the heavens above and the earth. He first summons his people. He brings no charges against their sacrifices, but shows what God really wants. It is not the animals, but their thank offerings to him like Mary who poured her perfume on Jesus. Then he will deliver us when we call on him in the day of trouble and use us to honor his name.

Second, God will destroy the wicked (16-23). Then God judges the wicked. For they recite the laws on their lips, but they hate his instruction and cast his words behind them. They break all the commands of God; steal, commit adultery, lie and slander others. They forget God. God kept silent but at the judgment he will tear them to pieces.

Prayer: Lord, you are the mighty judge. I repent of my lip service, habitual life, with no real love for you and others. Let me sacrifice thank offerings daily calling on your name. Use me to honor your name.

One Word: Give thanks to Almighty God for he sacrificed his Son first!
