Isaiah 7:1-14 (ESV)
Key Verse: 7:14
First, "Don't be afraid" (1-9). Ahaz, the king of Judah trembled as trees by the wind brought a rumor of the coming of the allied Northern Israel and Aram. The Lord God sent Isaiah saying, "Don't be afraid! They are nothing but two smoldering stubs of firewood! It will not happen!" For God would destroy Aram in 65 years as well as Samaria. A time of panic is a time to go and listen to God who is in control. He loves us and rescues us in all situations.
Second, Immanuel (10-14). God was ready to help Ahaz allowing him to ask for any sign. But Ahaz refused God's favor for he rather trusted in Assyria in his heart. But God was patient and promised to be with them through an impossible sign, "The virgin will conceive, and will give birth to a son and will call him 'Immanuel." Jesus is the confirmation of God's being with us, unworthy sinners. God is the Sovereign Lord yet came to be with us as "Immanuel" to save us sinners.
Prayer: Lord, I praise you for sending Jesus, Immanuel to be with us and to save us in spite of us.
One Word: Welcome Jesus, "God with us."
Acts 8:26-40
Key Verse: 8:35
