Daily Bread

Spread the Aroma of Christ

Date: Feb. 23, 2016

Passage

2 Corinthians 2:5-17  (ESV)

Daily Bread

Key Verse: 2:14

First, forgive the offender (5-11). Someone had grieved Paul and the Corinthian Christians. This person was sufficiently punished for his sins. Now, Paul urged them to forgive, comfort and love this sinner. Offenses must be properly handled, including punished as needed. However, forgiveness is also necessary. In fact, Paul saw forgiveness in this situation as a test of faith. As Jesus has forgiven us, we also must forgive others. When we do not forgive in the sight of Christ, Satan can outwit us and destroy Christian fellowship.

Second, the aroma of Christ (12-17). Paul had no peace in Troas because he could not find Titus. He returned to Macedonia. Nevertheless Paul thanked God for the privilege of being a captive in Christ's triumphal procession. Christians are the aroma of life to those who are being saved. They are also the smell of death to those who reject the gospel. We should not share the gospel for personal gain but share it with a pure heart before God.

Prayer: Lord, help me to forgive others as you have forgiven me. Let my life be the aroma of Christ to others.

One Word: Be the aroma of Christ
