Psalm 76:1-12 (ESV)
Key Verse: 76:1
First, God is renowned in Judah (1-10). This psalm commemorates the destruction of the Assyrian army under Sennacherib when the angel of God destroyed 185,000 enemy troops. God is great and he acts on behalf of his people. Though the Assyrian army looked mighty, God broke their flashing arrows and made them lie down in the deep of sleep. He did this in the sight of Jerusalem, the city of peace. At just a word, the God of Jacob made great warriors drop their weapons of war. Therefore, he is to be greatly feared. Our God is an awesome God; his name alone is great!
Second, fulfill your vows to the God of Jacob (11-12). The psalmist exhorts his people to make vows to God and then fulfill them. We should bring our God gifts of praise and thanksgiving. We should sing and make music to him. All nations need to know his sovereign rule. We should make his praise glorious among all nations.
Prayer: Prayer: Lord God, you alone are worthy of all praise. Help me to make your name known among all nations.
One Word: Our God is great and majestic!
Acts 8:26-40
