Date: Apr. 12, 2016
Psalm 79:1-13 (ESV)
Key Verse: 79:9
First, how long LORD? (1-7) The psalmist cries out to God because pagan nations have invaded Jerusalem. The dead bodies of Jewish citizens lay in the streets as food for the birds. Blood flows like water all around Jerusalem. He asks God: How long? Will you be angry forever? (5)
Second, for the glory of your name (8-13). Then he realizes that it is because of their sins that God has allowed this to happen. He asks God to forgive their sins and transgressions (8). He asks God to deliver his people for the glory of his name (9). Thus, his prayer becomes God-centered. He pleads with God to deliver them so that his name may be known among the nations.
Prayer: Prayer: Lord, forgive my sins and hidden faults. Help me to live for your glory.
One Word: Deliver us for your name's sake
Acts 8:26-40
