Mark 10:46-52 (ESV)
Key Verse: 10:52
First, a cry for mercy (46-49). Although Bartimaeus was a blind man and a beggar, he had a rich vision of Jesus. When he realized that Jesus of Nazareth was passing by, he shouted, "Jesus, Son of David, have mercy on me!" He saw that Jesus was the Messiah and the source of mercy. Even though the crowd rebuked him, he clung to his hope in Jesus and cried out to Jesus even louder than before. Joel 2:32 says, "And everyone who calls on the name of the LORD will be saved." It is true! Jesus stopped and called for Bartimaeus.
Second, faith is rewarded (50-52). Bartimaeus responded to the Lord's call with a sense of urgency and came to Jesus. With great tenderness, Jesus asked him, "What do you want me to do for you?" In this way, Jesus gave him an opportunity to affirm his faith. Jesus wants us to come to him with our needs. Are you in need of mercy? What do you want Jesus to do for you? Vision is a great thing to ask for. We need vision to
see our need for the Savior, to see the world as He sees it, and to see His will for our lives. Jesus said, "Go... your faith has healed you." When we call on Jesus for mercy, we must believe that he has the power and will to answer our prayer.
Prayer: Lord Jesus, grant us faith to seek your mercy.
One Word: "Your faith has healed you"
