With God We Will Gain the Victory

Date: Aug. 9, 2016

Passage

Psalm 108:1-13  (ESV)

A Song. A Psalm of David.

  My heart is steadfast, O God!
    I will sing and make melody with all my being!
  Awake, O harp and lyre!
    I will awake the dawn!
  I will give thanks to you, O LORD, among the peoples;
    I will sing praises to you among the nations.
  For your steadfast love is great above the heavens;
    your faithfulness reaches to the clouds.
  Be exalted, O God, above the heavens!
    Let your glory be over all the earth!
  That your beloved ones may be delivered,
    give salvation by your right hand and answer me!
  God has promised in his holiness:
    “With exultation I will divide up Shechem
    and portion out the Valley of Succoth.
  Gilead is mine; Manasseh is mine;
    Ephraim is my helmet,
    Judah my scepter.
  Moab is my washbasin;
    upon Edom I cast my shoe;
    over Philistia I shout in triumph.”
10   Who will bring me to the fortified city?
    Who will lead me to Edom?
11   Have you not rejected us, O God?
    You do not go out, O God, with our armies.
12   Oh grant us help against the foe,
    for vain is the salvation of man!
13   With God we shall do valiantly;
    it is he who will tread down our foes.

Key Verse: 108:13

  With God we shall do valiantly;
    it is he who will tread down our foes.

First, I will awaken the dawn (1-5). As David praised God awakening the dawn so we may also praise God from early morning. David praised God with a steadfast heart among the peoples of all nations for his love is great and his faithfulness is higher than the heavens.

Second, victory over our enemies (6-13). David was a mighty king yet he depended not on him but on God. For he knew human help is worthless. He believed God is the sovereign over all the nations beginning with Shechem, Sukkoth, Moab and Edom. So he prayed believing that God would save those God loves. He believed that with God he would gain the victory, for God would trample down his enemies.

Prayer: Lord, you are the Sovereign God over all. I trust in you. With you I will gain the victory over all enemies in my daily life.

One Word: Give me victory to your servants
