Praise Him All Creatures Great and Small

Date: Dec. 18, 2016

Passage

Psalm 148:1-14  (ESV)

  Praise the LORD!
  Praise the LORD from the heavens;
    praise him in the heights!
  Praise him, all his angels;
    praise him, all his hosts!
  Praise him, sun and moon,
    praise him, all you shining stars!
  Praise him, you highest heavens,
    and you waters above the heavens!
  Let them praise the name of the LORD!
    For he commanded and they were created.
  And he established them forever and ever;
    he gave a decree, and it shall not pass away.
  Praise the LORD from the earth,
    you great sea creatures and all deeps,
  fire and hail, snow and mist,
    stormy wind fulfilling his word!
  Mountains and all hills,
    fruit trees and all cedars!
10   Beasts and all livestock,
    creeping things and flying birds!
11   Kings of the earth and all peoples,
    princes and all rulers of the earth!
12   Young men and maidens together,
    old men and children!
13   Let them praise the name of the LORD,
    for his name alone is exalted;
    his majesty is above earth and heaven.
14   He has raised up a horn for his people,
    praise for all his saints,
    for the people of Israel who are near to him.
  Praise the LORD!

Key Verse: 148:5

  Let them praise the name of the LORD!
    For he commanded and they were created.

First, praise the Lord all you his creatures (1-12). God created all things for his own glory. Let all things in heaven and on earth praise him. Sun, moon and shining stars praise him. The great sea creatures, all wild animals and flying birds, all cattle must praise his name. Even hail and lightning, snow and clouds and stormy wind as well as mountains and trees, do his bidding. Kings and all princes, young men and maidens, old men and children--let them all praise his name, for he is our Creator.

Second, he has raised up a horn (13-14). A horn is the symbol of strength. God has raised up a strong king and shepherd for his people. This is a great blessing. He has raised the King of kings and the Lord of lords. Jesus is the horn of salvation. All who belong to Jesus are the saints of Israel, the people close to God's heart.

Prayer: Lord, I join all creatures in praising your name. Especially, I praise you for Jesus, the horn of salvation.

One Word: Praise the Lord
