Ecclesiastes 7:15-29 (ESV)
Key Verse: 7:18
1. Do not be overrighteous; do not be overwicked (15-22)
The Teacher tells his readers to fear God. Sometimes when people seek to live a righteous life, righteousness becomes their God. Rather we should fear God. When we fear God we avoid being overly righteous (self-righteousness). No one can live a righteous life. Everyone sins. But if we don't fear God, we can become overly wicked. Let us fear God and seek His righteousness.
2. God created mankind upright, but... (23-29)
God created us to be upright, faithful, God-seekers. That's what Adam and Eve were until the serpent made them go and search for many schemes. People are sinful. The Teacher found perhaps only one upright person out of a thousand. We can't understand the stupidity of wickedness. We can't understand wisdom. We can only seek to know God our Creator.
Prayer: Lord, help me to seek you, and not chase after many schemes.
One Word: Fear God
Acts 9:1-19
Key Verse: 9:5
