Live As Exiles Waiting to Return

Date: Jun. 18, 2018

Passage

Jeremiah 29:1-32 (ESV)

Daily Bread

Key Verse: 29:10

1. Grow and bear fruit where God put you (1-14)

Jeremiah was concerned about the exiles and so he wrote them a letter. God wanted his people to take root in their town, and pray for its peace and prosperity. God would bless them and give them a hope and a future. This didn't make sense but it was God's will. They simply had to trust God and settle in the land they were in and be a blessing.

2. Don't listen to false prophets (15-32)

False prophets were in the land of exile too. They told people that they would be returning to the land of Judah soon. But they would not return for seventy years. Zephaniah the priest wrote the king in Judah, urging him to put Jeremiah in irons. The teaching of the false prophets would multiply their suffering. Only God's word brings hope and a future.

Prayer: Lord, I trust your guidance. Help me to settle, bear fruit and be a blessing to those around me as I await your return.

One Word: Bring glory to God wherever you are
