David Flees to Philistia Again

Date: Jul. 5, 2018

Passage

1 Samuel 27:1-12 (ESV)

Daily Bread

Key Verse: 27:11b

1. Achish gives David Ziklag (1-7)

David fled to Philistia for the second time, since he still didn't trust Saul. Saul did not pursue David into enemy territory. The first time in Gath, David acted insane (21:10-15). This time, Achish king of Gath trusted David and gave him and his 600 men the town of Ziklag to live in.

2. David's deceptive raiding (8-12)

Achish assumed David was fighting against Israel and for pro-Philistine interests. In reality, David was faithful to Israel and fought against enemies of Israel. So David left no survivors who could tell Achish what he was doing. Though David was fleeing from the King of Israel, he was faithful to a higher authority, the LORD God of Israel. David knew that God still had a good purpose for his life. But Achish had no idea what was going on.

Prayer: Lord, may I fight wisely and faithfully on your side, the good fight against your enemy, the devil (Eph 6:11).

One Word: Fight faithfully on the LORD's side
