Trust in the Lord in Times of Trouble

Date: Jul. 29, 2018

Passage

Jeremiah 32:1-25 (ESV)

Daily Bread

Key Verse: 32:8

1. Living with God's hope in our heart (1-15)

The national situation seemed bleak. The final siege of Jerusalem was coming. It was hopeless, but in God there is always hope. Jeremiah was imprisoned in the courtyard, but God told him to buy a plot of land and save the deed. This made no sense. Why buy land when the exile was eminent? But buying land meant that Judah would be restored in the future. God's people live in hope.

2. Prayer is not just making requests (16-25)

Jeremiah's prayer was deep and rich. He praised God for who God is, the Creator. Nothing is impossible with God. He loves his people. He is a powerful God, full of justice. He works miracles and delivers his people. His personal knowledge of God enabled him to pray and have hope.

Prayer: Lord, though the times seem dark, we can have hope in you. Help us to live in your hope.
