2 Chronicles 26:1-23 (ESV)
Key Verse: 26:5
First, Zechariah mentors 16 year old Uzziah (1-15). His instruction focused on the fear of the Lord. Uzziah learned to live before God, to seek God's help, and know God's heart. Uzziah's reign is characterized by victory (6-8), rebuilding infrastructure (9-10), and military upgrades (11-15). As a result, his people and nation flourished. God helps those who fear him. Uzziah's success, fame and power were the blessing of God.
Second, Uzziah became proud and unfaithful (16-23). Abraham Lincoln is quoted as saying: "If you want to test a man's character, give him power." God said only priests can burn incense, but Uzziah did not listen. At the rebuke of Azariah and 80 courageous priests he should have repented, humbling himself. Instead he raged at the priests. God struck him with leprosy, humbling him until he died.
Prayer: Father, thank you for your great help on those who fear you. Please help me seek you humbly.
One Word: God helps those who seek him
Acts 8:26-40
