2 Chronicles 28:16-27 (ESV)
Key Verse: 28:19
First, the LORD humbled Judah (16-20). In addition to Aram and Israel, Edom and the Philistines began to attack Judah as well, capturing many towns. All this happened because God was humbling Judah, so that she might repent and turn back to him. He is able to save and deliver, as he had proven many times in the past. God's discipline is for our good, and we need to respond to it.
Second, Ahaz became even more unfaithful (21-27). But Ahaz did not humble himself before God. He sought human help from Assyria, but that brought trouble and did not help him with the real issues. Instead, he became more unfaithful to the LORD. His crooked mind led him to worship the vile idols of Assyria. He desecrated the temple and broadly expanded idol worship in Judah.
Prayer: Father, you humble me to discipline me because you love me. Help me humble myself before you.
One Word: God gives grace to the humble
Acts 8:26-40
