Paul's Defense (i)

Date: Oct. 6, 2014

Passage

Acts 21:37-22:16 (ESV)

Daily Bread

First, Paul meets the Risen Jesus (21:37-22:11). Paul spoke to the commander in Greek and then to the people in Aramaic which quieted them down. He had been a zealous Pharisee that was out to destroy the sect of the Nazarene. But while on his way to Damascus, the Risen Jesus appeared to him in a blinding light. When Paul asked him who he was, the Lord replied, "I am Jesus of Nazareth, whom you are persecuting." This was the turning point in Paul's life. It was the moment of self-discovery. He was given direction to go into Damascus where he would be told what to do.

Second, you will be his witness to all people (22:12-16). Ananias was Paul's first Bible teacher who opened Paul's eyes and told him that he had been chosen by God to see Jesus the Righteous One and to hear words from his mouth. It is a great privilege to hear the words of God. Then Ananias commissioned him to be a witness of Jesus to all peoples. Paul was baptized in the name of Jesus; he became a new creation (2 Cor. 5:17).

Prayer: Lord, thank you for letting me see you and hear your words. Make me your witness today.

One Word: Hear Jesus' words and be a witness
