Daily Bread

In the Storm

Date: Oct. 15, 2014

Passage

Acts 27:13-26  (ESV)

Daily Bread

Key Verse: 27:22

First, we gave up hope of being saved (13-20). At first, it seemed that the decision to sail was right as a gentle south wind blew the ship along. But then a violent wind called the Northeaster caught hold of the ship. They took on so much water they had to throw the cargo and the tackle overboard. The storm made it so overcast that neither sun nor stars appeared for many days and they despaired of ever being saved.

Second, keep up your courage (21-26). At the moment of despair, Paul the prisoner took charge spiritually of the situation. He told the men to keep courage and assured them that they would be saved though the ship would be lost. He told them of how an angel appeared to him to give him a message from God that he must stand trial before Caesar and that God had graciously given him the lives of all who had sailed with him. In the times of adversity, God's servant is revealed as the one who has hope and conviction.

Prayer: Lord, help me to hear your word in adversity and encourage others with your message.

One Word: Keep up your courage with faith in God!
