Paul Sets Sail for Rome

Date: Oct. 14, 2014

Passage

Acts 27:1-12  (ESV)

Daily Bread

Key Verse: 27:10

First, a little help from friends (1-8). Paul and some other prisoners were handed over to Julius the centurion and they set sail for Italy. At Sidon, Julius in kindness to Paul, allowed him to go to his friends so that they might provide for his needs. God was with Paul opening the heart of Julius and sending friends to assist him in his journey. We are not alone in the journey of faith. God shows us grace and kindness in many forms including loyal friends.

Second, Paul's warning not to travel (9-12). The weather worsened. Paul, an experienced traveler, advised them not to sail any further. He clearly said that the voyage would be disastrous (10). But the centurion decided to listen to the advice of the pilot and owner of the ship and try and reach Phoenix to winter there. They did not yet realize the prophetic insight and leadership of the apostle. Paul quietly waited the opportune time to speak again and they set sail for Phoenix.

Prayer: Lord, help me to be patient and trust you. Thank you for friends who provide comfort and help.

One Word: God is guiding me!
