Passage
Act 28:1-10 (ESV)
Date: Oct. 17, 2014
Act 28:1-10 (ESV)
Key Verse: 28:8b
First, Paul survives a snake bite (1-6). Paul and all his companions made it safely to Malta. The islanders showed them unusual kindness. However, while collecting firewood, a snake bit Paul on the hand. The islanders assumed that Paul must be a murderer since justice had not allowed him to live. However, Paul suffered no ill effects. This fulfills Jesus' word regarding apostles (Mk16:18). The islanders did not yet know the God of Paul.
Second, Paul's healing ministry on Malta (7-10). Publius the chief official of the island welcomed them at his estate and showed them generous hospitality. His father was suffering from fever and dysentery. Paul went in and laid hands on him and healed him. After this, all the islanders came to him with their sick and he healed them all. In deep appreciation, the islanders showered them with gifts, which would prove very useful on the way to Rome. The kingdom of God had come to them through Paul's visit. The gospel brings healing to sick minds and hearts as we faithfully proclaim it.
Prayer: Lord Jesus, thank you for healing me. Help me to pray for the sick and share good news with others.
One Word: Jesus Heals!
Acts 8:26-40
