Acts 28:11-22 (ESV)
Key Verse: 28:20
First, Paul's arrival at Rome (11-16). After the winter months were over, Paul and his companions set out in an Alexandrian ship with the figurehead of the twin gods Castor and Pollux. When they arrived at Puteoli, to his surprise, some brothers and sisters were there to greet Paul. One group traveled forty-three miles to the Market of Appius and another group traveled thirty-three miles to the Three Inns to welcome him. Paul was greatly encouraged by this show of affection. Finally, Paul arrived in Rome where he was allowed to live in a house by himself with a guard.
Second, Paul bound because of the hope of Israel (17-22). As was his custom, Paul first spoke to the Jewish leaders. He talked about his confrontation with the Jews in Jerusalem, his arrest and his appeal to Caesar. He made it clear that he had no intention to make any charge against his own people. Rather, he was in chains because of the hope of Israel. The hope of Israel and all nations is Jesus the Messiah and the resurrection.
Prayer: Lord, help me to remember that I am here to share my hope in Jesus.
One Word: Jesus is the hope of all nations!
