Nehemiah 3:1-32 (ESV)
Key Verse: 3:1a
First, a team effort. This chapter mentions nearly 50 individuals or groups of people who rebuilt the walls and gates. They were each precious participants in rebuilding the wall and restoring their national honor. They were not carpenters. They were goldsmiths, perfume-makers, priests, rulers, Levites, temple servants and merchants. Some nobles wouldn't work, but others took their places (5). Surely Nehemiah thanked God for these precious partners in the work. Have you thanked God lately for your partners in the gospel work for the precious work they've done?
Second, some special recognition. Some of the builders deserved special recognition. The residents of Zanoah rebuilt 1500 feet of wall (13). Some people worked in front of their homes, which they should do. But some came from other cities like Jericho (2), or even as far as Gibeon and Mizpah (7). Even a man with no sons got help from his daughters (12). The men of Tekoa, whose nobles wouldn't work, did double work (5,27). Baruch worked zealously (20).
Prayer: Lord, bless my fellow rebuilders in the gospel work and help me to do my part.
One Word: Let's rebuild together
