Praises Be to Our Forgiving God

Date: Nov. 13, 2014

Passage

Nehemiah 9:6-21  (ESV)

Daily Bread

Key Verse: 9:17c

First, what God did for Israel (5b-15). The Levites led a prayer based on the Bible and history. God is Creator of heaven and earth, Giver of life, worthy of all worship (5-6). The righteous God made a covenant with Abraham and gave him the land of Canaan (7-8). With wonders God brought his people out of Egyptian slavery, through the Red Sea, and guided them day and night (9-12). God gave them his Law at Mt. Sinai through Moses. He gave them manna and water from a rock and brought them into the Promised Land. God did all this for his chosen people Israel.

Second, reason to repent (16-21). In spite of all that God did for them, his people became arrogant, stiff-necked, disobedient, stubborn, forgetful and rebellious. They even worshiped a golden cow which they made. But our God is so forgiving, gracious, compassionate, slow to anger, abounding in love. God did desert or abandon his people. Rather, he guided and sustained them in the wilderness and instructed them with his good Spirit.

Prayer: Eternal praises to our gracious, compassionate God, who doesn't abandon us! May we give you the honor, thanks and praise you are worthy of.

One Word: Praise the Lord for who he is and for all he has done for us!
