Nehemiah 13:15-31 (ESV)
Key Verse: 13:27
First, Sabbath reform (15-22). Nehemiah saw that the Sabbath was being violated by work and business being carried out on the Sabbath. So he put a stop to it, rebuking the nobles and the merchants.
Second, no foreign wives or priests (23-31). Nehemiah saw that men of Judah had married foreign women and their children spoke only the language of their mothers. So he rebuked them, reminding them of the bad influence of Solomon's foreign wives who led Solomon into sin and unfaithfulness to God. Nehemiah also drove away a foreign priest, since that violated God's Law. Nehemiah did all these things in keeping with God's laws. He was a good and faithful Bible student who gave a good influence to his people and nation.
Prayer: Lord, help me to follow your word and Spirit rather than following worldly norms or customs.
One Word: Godly reform follows God's word
