Esther 9:21-10:3 (ESV)
Key Verse: 9:22
First, the Feast of Purim (9:21-32). The day that Haman had chosen by "pur" (lot) to be the day of Jewish annihilation became a day of joy and victory. Mordecai sent letters to the Jews scattered throughout the provinces asking them to celebrate these days with feasting and joy, and to give gifts to one another and to the poor. So the Feast of Purim was begun. It is still celebrated by the Jews. We must remember God's gracious deeds in our lives and celebrate them.
Second, Mordecai was the steward of the world (10:1-3). Xerxes enjoyed a long reign over the world. He was a man of vain conceit and many weaknesses. But Mordecai was the king's right hand man, and he used his position to rule righteously. He was always a shepherd for God's people and cared for their welfare. God blessed Xerxes' reign through Mordecai and Esther.
Prayer: Lord, teach us to remember and celebrate the victories you give, and be filled with thanksgiving. Help me to be a shepherd for your people always.
One Word: Remember and celebrate God's grace
