Matthew 2:1-12 (ESV)
Date: Dec. 25, 2014
Matthew 2:1-12 (ESV)
Key Verse: 2:2
First, "Where is the king?" (1-9). Jesus was born to his people, but none of them knew. These men who lived far from Judea however found out about the birth of the king, and had come to worship him. Jesus is God. Wise is the one who seeks Jesus. The trouble is where to look? Going to the palace was scary because of Herod. He saw Jesus as an opponent to crush. The religious leaders saw Jesus as a subject to be studied. They found out where he was born, but didn't go there. But these men sought him until they found him. God himself led them by starlight GPS.
Second, they bowed down and worshiped (10-12). These men were overjoyed to find Jesus. They didn't come to ask him for something. They came to worship the one worthy of their devotion, the king who came to save. They gave their gifts, bowed in humility, then left. True worship gave them joy.
Prayer: Father, you are the only one worthy of worship. Thank you for coming to us in Jesus. Help us seek him and worship him this Christmas.
One Word: Worship the king
