Genesis 10:1-32 (ESV)
Key Verse: 10:32
First, descendants of Japheth and Ham (1-20). Genesis 10 records the genealogies of Noah's three sons: Shem, Ham and Japheth. Japheth's sons include names like Magog, Meshek and Tubal which appear elsewhere (Ez 38:1). His descendants also included sea-faring peoples. Ham's descendants included the first recorded king, Nimrod (10), and Egypt. Many of Ham's descendants would become future enemies of the Israelites.
Second, descendants of Shem (21-32). Shem's lineage is recorded last because his line would become the focus of the rest of the Old Testament. Shem also had many descendants. Through Eber (24) would come Abram. God blessed the sons of Noah with many descendants. All the nations of the earth came from them. God was faithful to fulfill his promise and blessing to Noah (9:1).
Prayer: Lord, thank you for being sovereign and using human history to accomplish your purpose.
One Word: God works out his plan
