First, "we have come to worship him" (1-8). Magi, mysterious men of the east, came asking for Jesus.They were truth seekers, to whom God revealed a star to lead them to the Truth, Jesus Christ. In contrast, Herod was disturbed. He made use of the Bible to determine where this "rival" would be born, and then manipulated the Magi in hopes of finding and killing Jesus. He cared nothing for truth, and abused people for his own ends. People need a ruler who will shepherd them. Quoting Micah, Matthew tells us that Jesus is that ruler. Jesus is our Shepherd (Jn 10:11).
Second, they bowed down and worshiped (9-12). By the help of an angel the Magi accomplished their goal and were overjoyed. On finding Jesus, they gave gifts, and gave their worship to King Jesus, then left. Finding the one worthy of worship was everything.
Prayer: Father, thank you for Jesus, who is a shepherd king. Help me seek truth and worship him.
