Job 5:1-27 (ESV)
Key Verse: 5:18
First, man is born to trouble (1-8). Eliphaz advised Job based on his experiences. He saw man is born to trouble as surely as sparks fly upward. He was pessimistic, not representing God based on the word of God.
Second, if I were you, I would appeal to God (9-27). As Eliphaz said, God performs unfathomable wonders. He provides rain on earth. The lowly he sets on high. He saves the weak from the powerful. Blessed is the one whom God corrects. He wounds but he also binds up. He will make his descendants like the grass of the earth. Eliphaz said these according to his observation. The problem was that it was his word, not God's word.
Prayer: Lord, help us not to rely on our own experiences but on your word alone. Thank you for your discipline. You wound but heal after disciplining us.
One Word: God injures but also heals
Acts 8:26-40
