Genesis 18:1-15 (ESV)
Key Verse: 18:14
First, Abraham serves three unexpected guests (1-8). Shortly after the events of chapter 17, the Lord and two angels visit Abraham. Abraham and his whole household generously serve them unaware that they are serving the Lord himself and his angels (Heb. 13:2). We must serve whomever God sends us, as if serving the Lord himself.
Second, God promises Abraham and Sarah a son (9-15). While they are eating, the Lord reiterates his promise to Abraham and announces that it will be fulfilled in exactly one year (10). Sarah laughs out of unbelief; after all, they are both quite old. Sarah needed to repent of her fatalism and unbelief and put her trust in God. She was too old to have children, so she needed resurrection faith in the Creator God, the Author of life. The Lord gave her a concrete promise to believe, and he taught her through a rebuke that nothing is too hard for the Lord (14).
Prayer: Lord, nothing is too hard for you. I repent of my unbelief and fatalism over myself.
One Word: Nothing is too hard for our God!
1 Chronicles 17:16-27
