Job 34:1-37 (ESV)
Key Verse: 34:11
For according to the work of a man he will repay him,
and according to his ways he will make it befall him.
First, God doesn't do wrong (1-12) Here is Elihu's second speech. He invited his friends and then Job to discern together what is right. Job said, "I am innocent, but God denies justice. Although I am right, I am considered a liar; although guiltless, his arrow inflicts an incurable wound. There is no profit in trying to please God." Elihu testified that God never does wrong but repays everyone for what they have done.
Second, repent and seek God's mercy (13-33). God is Almighty Sovereign. He gives life and takes it away. He does not favor the rich over the poor. He sees every step of everyone. Without inquiry he knows everything. He punishes the mighty for their wickedness for not regarding any of his ways. But if he remains silent, who can condemn him? Yet he is over both individual and nation alike, to keep the godless from ruling. When we do wrong, we can't just say, "Sorry, I won't do it again." We must come to God in God's way, on God's term. We must repent and seek God's mercy.
Prayer: Lord, let me repent and seek your mercy
One Word: God is right, we must repent
