A Ransom for Them

Date: Apr. 16, 2015

Passage

Job 33:1-33  (ESV)

Daily Bread

Key Verse: 33:24

First, the spirit of God made me (1-12). Elihu admitted he was a piece of clay like Job. Yet he was bold to confront Job because the spirit of God, the breath of the Almighty gave him life. Elihu rebuked Job for saying that he was pure but God found fault with him and treated him as his enemy. For God is greater than any mortal. No righteous one should say such a word.

Second, God's purpose for every man (13-33). Job complained because God did not answer him. Elihu revealed that God does speak in various ways. God's purpose is always to turn a man from sin and pride, to repent and be saved from perishing. Every man needs a ransom, a mediator (23). But there is only one mediator between God and man, Jesus (1 Ti 2:5). God does all these things to restore suffering people so that they might repent and return to praise God, enjoying the light of life.

Prayer: Lord, thank you for Jesus, a ransom, our only mediator. Thank you for redeeming my soul to enjoy the light of life.

One Word: A ransom for the sinners
