Matthew 9:18-26 (ESV)
Key Verse: 9:22
First, two people come to Jesus by faith (18-21). Jesus' teaching was interrupted by a synagogue ruler whose daughter had just died. Yet he found hope in Jesus. He believed that if Jesus put his hand on his daughter, she would live! He had resurrection faith. While on their way, a woman came upon them. She had been bleeding for twelve years with no remedy. Yet she found hope in Jesus. She believed if she only touched his cloak, she would be healed. They are good examples of faith, people who heard and believed in Jesus, in spite of their impossible situation.
Second, Jesus blesses their faith (22-26). Jesus saw this woman and called her daughter. He blessed her faith, and she was healed just as she believed. Upon arriving at the ruler's house, people laughed at Jesus in unbelief. But Jesus demonstrated resurrection power by raising the girl from the dead, just as the ruler had believed. Jesus never fails those who trust in him.
Prayer: Father, thank you for Jesus, who is able to even raise the dead. Help me trust in him no matter what.
One Word: Jesus blesses those who have faith
