Matthew 9:27-34 (ESV)
Key Verse: 9:28
First, Son of David heals two blind men (27-31). These two men pleaded for Jesus' mercy. Calling him "Son of David" was their confession of faith in him as Messiah. Jesus met them privately and examined their faith: "Do you believe that I am able to do this?" They gave the best answer: "Yes, Lord," and Jesus healed them according to their faith. Jesus warned them not to speak about this. They had faith in Jesus' Lordship to be healed, but they did not obey, and spread the news all over.
Second, Jesus made a mute man speak (32-34). A man muted by a demon was brought to Jesus. He could not call out to Jesus, or say anything. But Jesus drove out the demon, and he spoke, to the amazement of the crowd. Opening the eyes of the blind and loosening the tongue of the mute were the clear evidence of his Messiahship (Isa 35:5-6). Jesus will open the spiritual eyes and loosen the tongues of those who believe.
Prayer: Father, thank you for sending Jesus, our Savior and Lord. Help me believe in him and obey him.
One Word: Believe in and obey Jesus the Messiah
