Matthew 10:34-42 (ESV)
Key Verse: 10:37
First, nothing is worth more than Jesus (34-39). Jesus' coming divided even families, who challenged his disciples: "choose Jesus or choose us." This kind of persecution is far more painful than others. At that time, Jesus challenges us to think of how much he is worth to us. Those who love family more, or who do not follow him on the road of suffering, or only seek their own benefit (life) show Jesus isn't worth much to them. But those who lose their life for Jesus' sake find the life that is truly life.
Second, welcome Jesus' disciples (40-42). In times of persecution when families are being broken, many people are displaced and in great need. Those who welcome Jesus' needy disciples are really welcoming Jesus and our Father. Those who do so will certainly not lose their reward from Jesus.
Prayer: Father, thank you for Jesus' sacrifice. Help me love Jesus more than anything, as he is most worthy.
One Word: Love Jesus most
Acts 8:26-40
Key Verse: 8:35
