Matthew 11:1-19 (ESV)
Key Verse: 11:11
First, Jesus commends John the Baptist (1-11). John the Baptist sent his disciples to Jesus with the question: "Are you the one?" Jesus pointed out the clear evidence that he is the Messiah. From people's point of view, John's life was a failure. But Jesus commended John as the greatest among men, and more than a prophet. Why? He was the forerunner of the Messiah. All who repent and believe in Jesus have the privilege to enter God's kingdom. In that sense, they are greater than John.
Second, Jesus' lament over his generation (12-19). From John's coming until today, the persecution of kingdom workers only increases. Jesus lamented over his generation, who did not respond properly to John and Jesus' preaching, but rather deliberately slandered them. They were opposing God's kingdom. But God's wisdom in his plan would be justified by the righteous fruit of kingdom ministers.
Prayer: Father, thank you for opening the way to your kingdom. Help me respond to Jesus and repent.
One Word: Blessed are those who accept Jesus
