Matthew 12:38-50 (ESV)
Key Verse: 12:50
First, something greater is here (38-45). The religious leaders pressed Jesus again for a sign. They refused to accept him as the Messiah. Jesus' resurrection would be the sign. Even wicked Gentiles like Nineveh and the Queen of the South repented and recognized greatness in Jonah and Solomon, but Jesus' generation did not recognize him, even though he is greater. They did not receive him as Messiah and Lord. If they persist in rejecting Jesus' Lordship, the result would be worse and worse.
Second, Jesus' family members (46-50). Jesus' family members came to see him. Jesus asked, "Who is my mother and who are my brothers?" In contrast with the sign-seeking generation, Jesus' disciples accepted him as Lord, and followed him with commitment. Jesus pointed to them as his family. The Father's will is that we receive Jesus as Lord and follow him. Those who do so have the privilege to be Jesus' family.
Prayer: Thank you Father for sending Jesus to open a way to be your child. Help me accept him as Lord.
One Word: Jesus is greater than anyone
Acts 8:26-40
