Daily Bread

Overcome Evil with Good

Date: Jun. 13, 2015

Passage

Romans 12:9-21  (ESV)

Daily Bread

Key Verse: 12:21

First, love in action (9-13). We must love one another with sincerity. True love hates what is evil. Love honors others above oneself. We must serve the Lord with ever great zeal. We should be joyful in hope, patient in affliction and faithful in prayer. We should share with the Lord's people who are in need, practicing hospitality. But how can we do that?

Second, how can we love in the hostile world? (14-21) Jesus loved and blessed even enemies who persecuted him. He didn't repay evil for evil. He never took revenge. He fed his enemy if he was hungry. Jesus was not overcome by evil, but overcame evil with good. With Jesus in our heart we can rejoice with those who rejoice, and mourn with those who mourn. We can live in harmony with one another, overcoming pride, living at peace with everyone. These are only possible when Jesus is in us and we are in him like a vine and branch relationship.

Prayer: Lord, help me not to be overcome by evil but overcome evil with good as you have done.

One Word: As Jesus loved!
