Romans 13:1-7 (ESV)
Key Verse: 13:7
First, be subject to the governing authorities (1-5). We have double citizenships. We belong to God while living under Caesar. So we must give to God what is God's and to Caesar what is Caesar's(Mt 22:21). God is Sovereign and no authority exists except what God has established. So we submit to the authorities not just to avoid punishment but it is right to do so before God.
Second, give to everyone what you owe them (6-7). We live in a world full of a rebellious spirit. Some even think that respecting authorities is against the principle of equality. But the authorities are God's servants, who give their full time to governing. This is why we pay taxes. Further, whatever we owe, we must give to everyone: If respect, then respect; if honor, then honor. In this way we can be the light.
Prayer: Lord, help us give to everyone what we owe to them.
One Word: Be the light and salt in this dark world!
Acts 8:26-40
