1 Corinthians 11:17-34 (ESV)
Key Verse: 11:25-26
First, it is not the Lord's Supper you eat (17-22). The church in Corinth practiced coming together to celebrate the Lord's Supper. But Paul did not have praise for their practice, because they came with unresolved divisions among them, and they ate without discernment for each other or for the Lord. In this way, instead of honoring Jesus they humiliated each other and despised the church of God.
Second, do this in remembrance of me (23-34). Jesus gave his body and blood in order to reconcile all things. Paul taught the Corinthians to remember Jesus at all times, but especially in the practice of celebrating the Lord's Supper. By doing so they proclaimed the Lord's death continually, and would do so until his glorious coming. To fail to recognize Jesus in the matter of the Lord's Supper is to invite judgment.
Prayer: Lord, thank you for Jesus who gave his body and blood for me. Help me to remember him in all things, and to proclaim his death until he comes again.
One Word: Proclaim the Lord Jesus
Acts 8:26-40
Key Verse: 8:35
