Daily Bread

By the Word of the Lord

Passage

Psalm 33:1-22  (ESV)

Daily Bread

Key Verse: 33:6

First, by the word of the LORD the heavens were made (1-11). The psalmist calls on the upright to sing joyfully to the LORD and to praise Him (1-3). The psalmist recalls the power of God's word. By the word of the LORD myriads of stars sprang into existence (6). He simply spoke and things came to be and stood firm (9). The whole earth is full of God's unfailing love (5) and his fingerprints are everywhere to see so that men are without excuse (Ro1:20). The LORD foils the plans of men while the plans of the LORD stand firm forever (10-11).

Second, blessed is the nation whose God is the LORD (12-22). We are so blessed to be God's chosen people, His holy nation, the Church (12). God watches over all mankind, especially His own people. As we trust in Him, He delivers us from death and keeps us alive in famine (19). We cannot trust in technology, our own strength or our cleverness to save us. Only the LORD can save us from the power of sin and death, which He has done through His Son. We now wait in hope for the Lord Jesus Christ who will come to take us to be with Him forever; we rejoice in this hope (20-21).

Prayer: Lord, by your word you made the heavens and earth. I put my hope in your word and wait joyfully for your salvation.

One Word: Wait for the Lord
