Psalm 36:1-12 (ESV)
Key Verse: 36:5
First, a message from God against evil (1-4). David had a message from God in his heart concerning the wicked. They have no fear of God before their eyes (1b). This means they have no reverence for God, nor respect for his ways. They flatter themselves too much to detect their own sins (2). People who flatter themselves think they are clever but deep inside suffer from self-condemnation and are under God's wrath (Ro1:18). They slander others and spend hours plotting against them (4a). They pursue a reckless course toward their own destruction (4b).
Second, your love, LORD, reaches to the heavens (5-12). In great contrast, God's love reaches to the heavens and his faithfulness to the skies (5). God is so faithful he remembered his promises over millennia and sent His Son to save us. His righteousness is like the highest mountains of the Himalayas, his justice like the great depths of the sea (6). Humble people take refuge in the shadow of his wings and feast on the abundance of his house (7b, 8). Our Christian life is a celebration of God's love and grace in Christ Jesus. We find in Jesus the fountain of life (9; Jn1:4). David prays that God may continue to show his love (10).
Prayer: Lord, your love and faithfulness reaches to the heavens. Thank you for your Son who saves us.
One Word: God is so loving and faithful
