1 Corinthians 12:1-11 (ESV)
Key Verse: 12:11
First, Jesus is Lord (1-3). The Christians in Corinth were proud of the spiritual gifts they received. Paul counsels them here regarding the Spirit. He teaches them that the Holy Spirit is God's precious gift to men. Apart from the Spirit of God all men dwell in ignorance and idol worship, easily led astray. The fundamental work of the Holy Spirit is to guide those who have been led astray and are away from God to recognize and confess that Jesus is Lord. No one can say that Jesus is Lord unless they have the gift of God-the Holy Spirit.
Second, to each one the Spirit is given (5-11). There are many different kinds of gifts and works that are done, but each one is the display of the work of God himself. God gives his Spirit and works in each person differently. Each one is a unique and beautiful manifestation of God, and together they form a body of those who display the glory of God. What we can see here is that our God gives freely the most precious gift of all, the Holy Spirit. He determined to reveal his glory by giving his Spirit.
Prayer: Prayer: Lord, thank you for the gift of the Holy Spirit. May your Spirit work in me and through me today.
One Word: God gives the Holy Spirit
